type Press release
note HT02/0
Hull Trains (the company in which GB Railways has an 80% stake) has welcomed the Office of the Rail Regulator’s approval for its track access proposals to operate new services between London and Hull via the East Coast mainline.
The company is now examining options for the implementation of its plans including key considerations such as timescales, rolling stock and finalising which stations will be served by the proposed services.
Discussions are now underway with the Shadow Strategic Rail Authority (SSRA) on the best approach to the development of the service. The initial service pattern is likely to involve 100mph rolling stock operating 3 / 4 trains a day in each direction between London and Hull. However, following the completion of the planned upgrade for the East Coast mainline in the next 2-3 years, Hull Trains plans to introduce new 125mph 'InterCity standard' rolling stock and an increased frequency of service.
Hull Trains will be submitting its longer-term proposals to the SSRA for approval as part of the current franchise replacement process. In the meantime the expected start-up date for the service is likely to be in the latter half of 2000.
